For over 15 months, the people of Gaza have endured a relentless war that has killed almost 50,000 people, left tens of thousands injured or missing, and displaced 90% of the population.
On 15 January 2025, a temporary ceasefire was announced, coming into effect on 19 January. Thousands of Oxfam supporters signed our ceasefire petition, and we thank you for adding your voice. This pause in conflict is a significant moment for the people of Gaza.
We welcome the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees. Airstrikes and shelling in Gaza have ceased and access for humanitarian assistance has significantly improved. But the West Bank has seen an intensification of violence.
Now, it’s vital that life-saving humanitarian aid and infrastructure support is delivered at the scale required.
What people like you have helped achieve in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

To date, the Oxfam Confederation and our partners have managed to reach 1,211,018 people in Gaza and the West Bank with life-saving aid including food, water, sanitation and hygiene services, emergency cash, essential basic items and protection services for the most at-risk groups. There have also been repairs made to wells, water points, stormwater and wastewater networks to help strength the decimated water infrastructure.
This support was delivered in the face of huge obstacles, and we welcome an increase in access post-ceasefire.
An update from Lebanon

Israel and Lebanon forged a conditional ceasefire agreement two months ago, but attacks have continued. 165,4298 people remain displaced, 3 hospitals and 53 schools remain closed, and 44 water facilities have been damaged.
The Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade estimates that Israeli attacks have inflicted $15-20 billion in damages, affecting homes, infrastructure, and essential institutions providing healthcare and water services.
Thanks to people like you, 81,137 people have been reached with food, water, sanitation and hygiene services, cash for shelter, winter kits, and protection services.
What’s next?
This temporary ceasefire in Gaza must become permanent to protect civilians and allow humanitarian aid to safely reach the 2.2 million Palestinians who have been denied their basic rights.
This is our opportunity to deliver the food, water, medical care and protection the people of Gaza are owed. After over a year of bombardment, the need is greater than ever.
With your support, the global Oxfam community will continue to advocate for a permanent end to all violence and to allow lifesaving support to reach Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon’s communities.
