X-Men ‘97 Praised by Spider-Man Writer

The critically acclaimed and Eisner Award-winning comic book creator Dan Slott is full of praise for the recently released series, X-Men ’97. The Superior Spider-Man writer believes the X-Men: TheAnimated Series follow-up show is one of the best productions by Marvel Studios in recent years.

Slott took to Instagram to share his thoughts about the popular X-Men ’97, and the veteran Spider-Man writer was effusive in his praise, having watched a couple of episodes. “Two episodes in, and I’m calling it. X-Men ’97 is one of the best things Marvel Studios has done in years. For me, it’s right up there with WWBN, GOTG: Holiday Special, GOTG Vol.3, and both seasons of What If?” he wrote. Slott even believes the current show is better than its predecessor, “To some, this might be sacrilegious… but I think it’s better than the original X-Men cartoon. Believe the hype. If you haven’t watched it yet, go. Watch. Now,” Slott added.

Slott is not alone in his assessment of the series. X-Men ’97 has earned overwhelming praise from audiences, especially from fans of X-Men: The Animated Series. Both shows share the tone and animation reminiscent of the ’90s, but X-Men ’97 holds its own with an engaging continuing story. The show has indeed been a hit for Marvel Studios, who need a win following the underwhelming performance of some of its latest entries, such as The Marvels, which performed poorly at the domestic and global box office. X-Men ’97 Season 1 was created by Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), who Marvel dismissed a week before the show’s debut.

X-Men ’97 features the voices of Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Ross Marquand as Professor X, A.J. LoCascio as Gambit, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, JP Karliak as Morph and more.
