Two Original GI Joe Members Start Over in First Look

Skybound Comics has revealed a first look at G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #306, with preview pages showing Zartan finding himself in deep water in the bayou. The upcoming issue also promises a new chapter for Snake Eyes and Scarlett.




The upcoming G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issue sees Aquaman‘s Paul Pelletier join the creative team as a guest artist alongside series writer Larry Hama, artist Tony Kordos and colorist Francesco Segala. Skybound also revealed the first three pages of the upcoming issue, showing the villainous Zartan dealing with a heat-seeking missile and finding a mysterious clue as to who sent it after him. Cover art for the new issue was revealed, featuring a main cover by Andy Kubert and Brad Anderson as well as a variant cover by Brad Walker and Francesco Segala. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #306 goes on sale May 15.

As Snake Eyes and Scarlett begin a new chapter, tragedy strikes for someone dear to them in Springfield…”

Skybound’s Energon Universe Explores G.I. Joe’s Origins

Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, have been exploring the origins of G.I. Joe and Cobra in the all-new shared Energon Universe containing characters from Void Rivals, Transformers and the legendary G.I. Joe series. The shared universe launched in 2023 when the Transformers character Jetfire appeared in Robert Kirkman’s Void Rivals #1.

Since then, iconic G.I. Joe characters have gone on to star in their own comics also set in the Energon Universe, with four miniseries planned to release throughout the year. The first of these miniseries was Duke, exploring the beginnings of the G.I. Joe Team’s First Sergeant, followed by Cobra Commander, which introduced the fictional terrorist organization into the Energon Universe. Later in the year, two more series will arrive — Scarlett by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Marco Ferrari as well as Destro by writer Dan Watters and artist Andrei Bressan.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #306 goes on sale May 15 from Skybound and Image Comics.
