In a video posted on Instagram, Amy Jo Johnson gives fans a taste of her voice as Rita Repulsa. The voice will be featured in an April 3 reading of the second issue of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return, written by Johnson and Matt Jotson. The reading will air live on Johnson’s Instagram at 7 pm EST.
The Best Power Rangers Comics With Surprisingly Dark Endings
The Power Rangers franchise may seem light-hearted and kid-friendly on the surface, but the comics by BOOM! Studios didn’t shy away from dark endings.
Johnson portrayed Kimberly Ann Hart, better known as the original Pink Ranger on 1993’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers throughout the series’ first three seasons. Johnson reprised the role for 1995’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, as well as for 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. The latter appearance saw her return to the character after having passed the mantle of Pink Ranger on to Catherine Sutherland’s Katherine Hillard, the second Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger who carried the mantle through both Power RangersZeo and Power Rangers Turbo.
In May 2023, Johnson opened up about her decision not to return for Netflix’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always thirtieth-anniversary special. After previously stating that she had turned down the offer made to her, Johnson implored fans to “Stop saying I didn’t do the reunion because of money. Simply not true.” She added, “[Jason David Frank] and I both chose not to for our own reasons. They filmed before he passed.”

Though the heroes are not as active as they once were, the continued efforts of Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Ranger, and his subsequent disappearance kick off a sprawling mystery that brings the remaining Rangers back together years after their final battle against the forces of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd.
