Regarding Marcello and the lord high priest, the DQ fandom wiki says "it is heavily implied that he killed the Lord High Priest, as the story is that the Lord High Priest 'fell' from his mansion on the mountain, but he apparently had a wound that looked like he had been stabbed through the chest" so I'm guessing it was pretty much confirmed he killed him in the original and it maybe got changed in translation to English.
