exile feat. bon iver – lyrics:
written by taylor swift, william bowery & justin vernon

I can see you standing, honey
With his arms around your body
Laughing but the joke’s not funny at all
And it took you five whole minutes
To pack us up and leave me with it
Holding all this love out here in the hall

I think I’ve seen this film before
And I didn’t like the ending
You’re not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town
Now I’m in exile seeing you out
I think I’ve seen this film before

I can see you staring, honey
Like he’s just your understudy
Like you’d get your knuckles bloody for me
Second, third, and hundredth chances
Balancing on breaking branches
Those eyes add insult to injury

I think I’ve seen this film before
And I didn’t like the ending
I’m not your problem anymore
So who am I offending now?
You were my crown
Now I’m in exile seeing you out
I think I’ve seen this film before
So I’m leaving out the side door

So step right out
There is no amount
Of crying I can do for you

All this time
We always walked a very thin line
You didn’t even hear me out
(Didn’t even hear me out)
You never gave a warning sign
(I gave so many signs)

All this time
I never learned to read your mind
(Never learned to read my mind)
I couldn’t turn things around
(You never turned things around)
Cause you never gave a warning sign
(I gave so many signs)
(So many signs)
(So many signs)
You didn’t even see the signs

I think I’ve seen this film before
And I didn’t like the ending
You’re not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town
Now I’m in exile seeing you out
I think I’ve seen this film before

So I’m leaving out the side door

  1. U see how Taylor took the back seat in this song – I wish they would have slowed it down for the video though it is was rushed

  2. this song is reminiscent of Damien Rice and his genius. I heard exhile in the finale of You. It's like being your own hero when you listen because you finally got away from the abuser. You did it ❤

  3. 4:104:30 is pure magic, I cannot even describe the shivers it gives me

  4. thank you tik tok for having listen to me this opera

  5. Stuck in my head today I played this song like 5 times ❤

  6. This song is beautiful. Definitely worth listening to it more than once to focus on each artist. Taylor Swift sings beautifully, and Bon Iver is just as awesome. I found his music after this. Very talented. Both of them are awesome.

  7. I feel like with the emotional and reflective quality of Taylor and Justin’s lyrics they make so much sense together! I had this sense that they process relational issues similarly but Justin is more private so his lyrics are more encoded and vague. Taylor Swift’s fame and place in the spotlight means people are going to decode the lyrics for ties to what they know anyways so like why even try to make it hard to pick apart

  8. Anybody think of feyre and Tamlin ?

  10. I absolutely love this version. I love seeing the emotions on Taylor's face. It makes it feel so real. Bon Iver's voice is just incredible.

  11. Noemi Wolfs' version with the backstory on why they covered it is a more emotional version 🥲

  12. why am I only hearing this song in 2024

  13. I love this. Im tearing up its just so beautiful.

  14. Taylor’s vocals are pretty mid here. Why is that girl sobbing over it?

  15. Not sure why he’s wearing a mask to sing but moving on… 😂

  16. I can't listen to this song without crying my heart out.

  17. Went here after Joe-Tay breakup 😢

  18. The part from Bon Iver is absolutely outstanding. ❤ Some people are blessed with a superb voice. 😊

  19. This song came up to me on a really bad night. My marriage was on life support after 17 years….I was not living at home. I was in exile. And this song cut my heart to shreds. But in the end, I was able to see the signs. Thank you.

  20. Taylor Swift has an army of fans for no reason lol her music is scientifically mid

  21. I happened to listen to this song as I was driving through my parents old neighborhood (they just moved). For context, our house wasn't huge but it was idyllic and had this beautiful lake I uded go to all the time. My parents couldn't afford it anymore. I just felt like I didn't belong there anymore and the lyrics really hit me.

  22. How wonderful, Taylor and Bon Iver's voices match perfectly, just like Juliet and Romeo

  23. Why with the cloth on his face?

  24. Bon Iver's voice is so versatile! Him and Taylor Swift singing together is just plain magical!

  25. This song deserves to be known by everyone 😭✨

  26. Musica mais linda da minha vida

  27. 😊😊😅😅😊😅😅😅😊

  28. Love this song of Taylor and Bon ' they blend so well..very relaxing…

  29. This song so deep and their voice tells everything 😢

  30. Best duet I've ever heard!

  31. Still be my favorite folklore's song….❤
