As 23-year-old Canadian artist Nicky MacKenzie did reckon, growth is so essential, be it in a personal sense or artistically. Her forthcoming EP, Morals, was inspired by her desire to own up to her shortcomings and take control of her life.
Musically, the project benefits from the many songwriting camps and collaborations she’s had to participate in. “Morals” — the recently released title-track — is about walking away from situations that don’t serve you. This R&B/pop song was released in the company of a nice-looking video (see above).
Nicky says, “I wanted to create something catchy that also has a deeper cathartic meaning to it. I think it’s a feeling everyone has eventually, needing to just let go of doubt and give in to your wants. I just wanted to give it a bit of a sassy tone.“
