— | LYRICS |–

When I was six years old I broke my leg
I was running from my brother and his friends
tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down
I was younger then, take me back to when I
Found my heart and broke it here, made friends and lost them through the years
And I’ve not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know, I’ve grown
but I can’t wait to go home

I’m on my way, driving at 90 down those country lanes
Singing to Tiny Dancer, And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real
When we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill

Fifteen years old and smoking hand rolled cigarettes
Running from the law through the backfields and getting drunk with my friends
Had my first kiss on a Friday night, I don’t reckon I did it right
I was younger then, take me back to when we found
Weekend jobs when we got paid and buy cheap spirits and drink them straight
Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh how we’ve grown
I can’t wait to go home

I’m on my way, driving at 90 down those country lanes
Singing to Tiny Dancer, And I miss the way you make me feel, it’s real
When we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill

One friend left to sell clothes
One works down by the coast
One had two kids but lives alone
One’s brother overdosed
Ones already on his second wife
Ones just barely getting by
But these people raised me
And I can’t wait to go home

And I’m on my way, and I still remember those country lanes
When we did not know the answers, And I miss the way you make me feel, it’s real
When we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill

  1. Love this song, really got me thinking for a while 👏

  2. this song does not remind me of breaking my leg, or kissing someone, but it reminded me of how my younger self used to be so passionate about life, about writing, about all the little things in her life. that was 7 years ago, when life was still good. i'm in my mid-twenties now, have a good job, living away from home. life's better now , financially speaking, but i wish i could bring back the passion i used to have.

  3. "wtf is Pokemon and math?" – Congress

  4. feels like I'm a kid again

  5. 2016-2017 were the best. No tiktok, less social media, no Covid effects

  6. Still love this song so much 😍

  7. I thought it had an adventurous beat because of How to Train Your Deagon 3. But with time, I felt and learned that this tune is about a guy’s nostalgia. And it made me feel sad about my nostalgia.

  8. Anyone here in 2024?

  9. this gives me the nostalgia i've never got to experienced for myself.
thank you, Ed Sheeran, for these amazing songs

  10. Me in 2050 coming back to my hometown

  11. U getting older day by day…and this song hit different… miss my old friends who can make me all day long..but when we'll are getting older and so busy to talk and text like we used to do…

  12. Not me ugly crying while listening to this today 😭😭😭😭😭😭

  14. This is me, back from 7 years old. I am in April 2024 now. It's a long and hard journey to get here 😢🎉

  15. Still brings me back to the Hidden World trailer. I still remember the first HTTYD movie coming out and seeing it in theaters. Those movies really did feel like watching the sun set over a castle on the hill, growing up with them.
