Iconic Releasing is bringing Cowboy Bebop: The Movie back to the Canadian big-screen this month as part of their Anime Expo Cinema Nights program. Originally released in Japan in 2001, the film has seen multiple theatrical runs in North America since Sony’s Destination Films released here it in 2003.
Set between episodes 22 and 23 of Cowboy Bebop, the film saw most of the show’s production crew reprise their roles. Shinichirō Watanabe, Keiko Nobumoto, Yoko Kanno and Toshihiro Kawamoto returned as director, writer, composer and animation director/character designer, respectively. The movie was produced by Sunrise in conjunction with Bones, a then-new studio which Kawamoto co-founded.
Caught up in a world of dreams, lost in the cruelty of reality.
What should have been an easy bounty turns into biological war after a terrorist gets ahold of a deadly virus. Drawn in by the pretty price on the mastermind’s head, Spike and the Bebop crew are ready to collect a much-needed reward. Unfortunately, the gang’s about to find themselves in more trouble than money when the terrorist threatens to unleash the virus on Halloween—effectively killing everyone on Mars. With little time and leads that seem more dreamy than helpful, they’ll have to use their own bag of tricks to stop a dangerous plot.
The film will be screened in both English dubbed and subtitled Japanese formats beginning January 21st and 23rd, respectively. To purchase tickets, click here: Dub | Sub.
