SixSaidIt – The Hip Hop African

SixSaidIt—AKA Six, AKA the (h)it girl—is a British-Nigerian rapper representing the African diaspora. Born and raised in the UK to Nigerian parents, Six grew up in major cities all over the Black Atlantic world including London, Atlanta, Lagos, Abuja, and New York City. Now based in Los Angeles, Six pays tribute to her cosmopolitan upbringing and global Black identity in her music which crosses the borders of hip-hop subgenres to create a unique and unforgettable sound.

With a wide range of cultural references and a dynamic array of musical stylings, SixSaidIt has built a diverse catalog with a song for every hip-hop lover. Her current top songs each incorporate a different subgenre or influence. Her newest single and most streamed song “Bite Size” is a punchy drill track, while “Little Bit” from her 2022 album Outside II features electronic, dance, and house influences. In the single “GOAT,” Six raps over a sample of 50 Cent’s 2003 club anthem “P.I.M.P.,” while her flirty track “Choosey” pulls from Afropop rhythms. Six’s song lyrics are equally fluid. In “Choosey,” Six seamlessly shouts out British icons such as Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka and rapper Dave alongside American film star Kevin Costner, R&B legend T-Pain, L.A. Dodgers star Cody Bellinger, and the famous waistline dances of the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a result, listening to Six’s albums can feel like traveling the Black Atlantic world at super speed.

Experimental, subgenre-bending, and unexpected, SixSaidIt is truly an artist of the diaspora and a young rapper to watch for as she rises in the global hip-hop scene.
