The Western Cape was hard hit by stormy weather on Sunday which continued into Monday.
As reported by The South African website there was widespread damage to roads, flooding in several areas, trees uprooted and destruction amounting to millions of rands in the Western Cape in the last 24 hours.
Chapman’s Peak drive, one of the world’s most scenic routes, which winds its way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay on the Atlantic coast, has been closed due to high winds and threats of rockfalls.
The latest available news – and a look at the weather forecast – suggests that Chapman’s Peak will remain closed to traffic for some time to come.

In addition, the famed road will also be closed on Saturday, 13 April due to the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon.
Meanwhile, strong winds blew over several vehicles at the Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 outside Cape Town.
The tunnel has also been closed.
