Not pareidolia!! Meanwhile, you are late to the artisan party on this boulder’s face. If you sit back, you can just makeout the latent relief portraitures of colossal 6-10 images, downslope, and to your left, possibly multiples stacked on top of each other, columns of faces, positioned closer and closer towards the camera.
You have to sit back, and start with stereo eyes looking to the left.
I am guessing they look bearded, as in Greek. Astonishing, and frightening. Be safe, brother!
Note: as anyone would validly note, these relief portraits are unprovable, asking yourself, are they 5 years or 5000 years old, nobody knows the truth, why bother, certainly not worth the danger of viewing them!
Mountaineering can help reduce stress as it provides a peaceful and relaxing environment and allows people to connect with nature. In addition, practicing physical exercises can help reduce stress and anxiety.
Thank you very much for your concern. Thank you from the heart. I understand, but I need to explain my mind. I have zero fear of heights. Where I am sitting is a solid, rough rock and we arrive at the edge of the precipice sitting little by little.
I usually start my albums from the beginning, but this time, I started from the middle (sitting on the rock in peace). The ascent and descent are very complicated on this wall (with ropes, chairs, carabiners, crampons, etc.). I hired two professional mountain guides to guide me in the safest way. Anyway, a high risk sport that you sign a liability waiver at the entrance to the forest.
Many ask why many sports exist, such as fighting, F1, football, volleyball, Olympic gymnastics, etc. Mountaineering gives me pleasure.
This ascent to Pedra da Gávea (844 meters / 2,769 ft) took the entire day of last Saturday, but on Friday I climbed Pico do Escalavrado (‘Scalloped Peak’) with 4 guides for the entire day. Escalavrado is 1,420 meters / 4,658 meters high and is one of the most visited and imposing mountains in the Serra dos Órgãos / Mountain Range of Organs.
I’m well trained, physically fit and a very calm mind. I’ll stop climbing when my almost 58 year old physique warns me or I lose my confidence.
I’ll post both albums soon and you’ll see that this sitting is nothing compared to the difficult ascents and descents of these two peaks. In places of extreme danger, I don’t even use my cell phone to take pictures, because I need concentration for movements. I only use the Sony camera (in the backpack) on the summits with the tripod.

It’s my life!
Many didn’t even realize it’s me on the precipice. I am not the photographer in this photograph. I am the subject along with the landscape.
It’s not even my first peak, it’s not the hardest, it’s not the highest, it’s not the part where I’m most at risk of dying on that peak, it’s not the first time I’ve sat on the edge, and I’ve never been so offended and judged .
I ride a bike at least 7 km a day and that’s where I feel least safe. Will I stop doing the things that give me pleasure?

This place is not all that. It’s more a question of the photographic angle of where the camera was. Anyway, mountaineering is an extreme sport.

Elias,those views are exceptional!But did you use any safeguard measures?I do not see any there!Say you fell off this rock-nothing was there to hold you from falling down?
I read your extra piece above about why you love what you do, and your enviable lack of fear for heights. We all fear something…it just may not be heights. We are what we are, and if we accept the risks of what we do then that is a responsible way to approach it.
Do we stop people doing what they love? What sort of world is that?
I look at these things in another way these days. There is risk everywhere. I mean, if I can fall over just by walking on the pavement, nearly break my nose and the bones in my hand and then take over 8 weeks to recover from the bruising, then I might have been safer going up a mountain.
I was coming out of a cemetery…..with my camera in my other hand….which I kept hold of. So that’s fine! It is just that my nose has a new dent in it instead.
So sometimes..we might get so scared we don’t do anything. I was a bit shaky for a while. But then my next trip out I went back, and walked over the pavement where I fell.
I feel better now. This small unimportant action of walking over this pavement would mean nothing to most people. But for me it was a victory.
Because I love what I do. And I didn’t want to stop.
We don’t want to get older and wish we had done this or that. If we can do what we love safely, then it is what makes us who we are. Thinking of you, x🙏x

Eu não subi como você subiu no passado. Muitos estavam subindo sem nada. Não é meu problema. Na verdade, a Pedra da Gávea foi um passeio na floresta pra mim. Fácil.
Tem pessoas que não tem louça pra lavar em casa, assim diz o ditado brasileiro.
Eu gostei muito do visual da Pedra da Gávea, também. É encantador.

But the backside is not too difficult a climb – it’s a little exposed as we say in climbing, but wholly non-technical. We were eight kids, four boys, four girls, only two of us with climbing experience, and we got to the top no problem. Getting back down, however, did wear the jeans bottom right off one of the girls.
The view is so great. I remember the illusion of the frozen waves – at that height the breakers rolling onto Ipanema and Leblon beaches seemed not to move. Rio in those years was truly magical, though not without danger. Thanks for posting these wonderful shots. And if people are freaked out by this, go look at my son Dereferenced photo stream. He climbs in the Himalayas. That scares even me.

My wife took me to the nearby hospital fast and a very good cardiologist attended. Since then every day is a gift and I am living as hard and fast as I can. Much like you, my friend 👍

Mountaineering can help reduce stress as it provides a peaceful and relaxing environment and allows people to connect with nature. In addition, practicing physical exercises can help reduce stress and anxiety.
Thank you very much for your concern. Thank you from the heart. I understand, but I need to explain my mind. I have zero fear of heights. Where I am sitting is a solid, rough rock and we arrive at the edge of the precipice sitting little by little.
I usually start my albums from the beginning, but this time, I started from the middle (sitting on the rock in peace). The ascent and descent are very complicated on this wall (with ropes, chairs, carabiners, crampons, etc.). I hired two professional mountain guides to guide me in the safest way. Anyway, a high risk sport that you sign a liability waiver at the entrance to the forest.
Many ask why many sports exist, such as fighting, F1, football, volleyball, Olympic gymnastics, etc. Mountaineering gives me pleasure.
This ascent to Pedra da Gávea (844 meters / 2,769 ft) took the entire day of last Saturday, but on Friday I climbed Pico do Escalavrado (‘Scalloped Peak’) with 4 guides for the entire day. Escalavrado is 1,420 meters / 4,658 meters high and is one of the most visited and imposing mountains in the Serra dos Órgãos / Mountain Range of Organs.
I’m well trained, physically fit and a very calm mind. I’ll stop climbing when my almost 58 year old physique warns me or I lose my confidence.
I’ll post both albums soon and you’ll see that this sitting is nothing compared to the difficult ascents and descents of these two peaks. In places of extreme danger, I don’t even use my cell phone to take pictures, because I need concentration for movements. I only use the Sony camera (in the backpack) on the summits with the tripod.

It’s my life!
Many didn’t even realize it’s me on the precipice. I am not the photographer in this photograph. I am the subject along with the landscape.
It’s not even my first peak, it’s not the hardest, it’s not the highest, it’s not the part where I’m most at risk of dying on that peak, it’s not the first time I’ve sat on the edge, and I’ve never been so offended and judged .
I ride a bike at least 7 km a day and that’s where I feel least safe. Will I stop doing the things that give me pleasure?

I read your extra piece above about why you love what you do, and your enviable lack of fear for heights. We all fear something…it just may not be heights. We are what we are, and if we accept the risks of what we do then that is a responsible way to approach it.
Do we stop people doing what they love? What sort of world is that?
I look at these things in another way these days. There is risk everywhere. I mean, if I can fall over just by walking on the pavement, nearly break my nose and the bones in my hand and then take over 8 weeks to recover from the bruising, then I might have been safer going up a mountain.
I was coming out of a cemetery…..with my camera in my other hand….which I kept hold of. So that’s fine! It is just that my nose has a new dent in it instead.
So sometimes..we might get so scared we don’t do anything. I was a bit shaky for a while. But then my next trip out I went back, and walked over the pavement where I fell.
I feel better now. This small unimportant action of walking over this pavement would mean nothing to most people. But for me it was a victory.
Because I love what I do. And I didn’t want to stop.
We don’t want to get older and wish we had done this or that. If we can do what we love safely, then it is what makes us who we are. Thinking of you, x🙏x

Eu postarei outras fotografias das duas últimas subidas, Escalavrado, Serra dos Órgãos (sexta-feira passada) e a Pedra da Gávea (sábado passado). Eu deveria ter começado pelo começo. 😅 A carrasqueira é muito arriscada de subir na Pedra da Gávea. Eu subi com dois guias, seguro de vida, experiência e todo equipamento de segurança. Eu não subi como você subiu no passado. Muitos estavam subindo sem nada. Não é meu problema. Na verdade, a Pedra da Gávea foi um passeio na floresta pra mim. Fácil.
Tem pessoas que não tem louça pra lavar em casa, assim diz o ditado brasileiro.
Eu gostei muito do visual da Pedra da Gávea, também. É encantador.
Eu gosto de críticas construtivas. As ofensas não são legais.
Eu quando não gosto de uma fotografia alheia, eu não comento, fave, etc. Se é de um amigo pessoal, envio a crítica técnica da fotografia por privado.
As pessoas que sentem aflição dessa fotografia, eu as entendo.

But the backside is not too difficult a climb – it’s a little exposed as we say in climbing, but wholly non-technical. We were eight kids, four boys, four girls, only two of us with climbing experience, and we got to the top no problem. Getting back down, however, did wear the jeans bottom right off one of the girls.
The view is so great. I remember the illusion of the frozen waves – at that height the breakers rolling onto Ipanema and Leblon beaches seemed not to move. Rio in those years was truly magical, though not without danger. Thanks for posting these wonderful shots. And if people are freaked out by this, go look at my son Dereferenced photo stream. He climbs in the Himalayas. That scares even me.

My wife took me to the nearby hospital fast and a very good cardiologist attended. Since then every day is a gift and I am living as hard and fast as I can. Much like you, my friend 👍
