Affording meat – The Carnivore Dad

One common concern that I hear from people is that they don’t think they can afford the carnivore diet. Ideally, you want fatty cuts of beef. Other meats like seafood, pork, or chicken are next on your list. You can even add eggs and low carb dairy to the mix. These can help fill you up!

It is best to have grass fed, organic beef, but I understand that this can be expensive and prohibitive. While I do try to buy grass fed/organic when I can, I am also here to tell you that it is possible to be a frugal carnivore! Here are a few ideas to help you get started:

  • Buy in bulk – Costco and Sams can have a great deals on meat.
  • Buy a whole ribeye and cut it yourself. I’ve seen this as low as $4.04 per pound at stores near me.
  • Go for leaner cuts. I bought several Top Round steaks for $4.49 per pound. They can be a bit chewier but still tasty!
  • Look for sales. My parents live near a Winn Dixie that frequently has sales of bone-in ribeyes for $3.99 per pound.
  • Find a friend to go in on the purchase of cow. It supports your local farmers and can provide low priced beef for months!
  • Make friends with a local butcher. They can sometimes give you great deals, and can also provide some delicious organ meats!
  • Buy ground beef in bulk. This is my go-to meal when I don’t have time or money to grill.
  • Look at other meats. Pork steaks are usually much cheaper and taste great! I’m also a fan of baked wings.

For example, here was my dinner. 15.9 oz of top round and 10 shrimp. Total price: $8.78!

Steak on a plate with shrimp skewers.

These are just a few ideas to show you that you can be carnivore without breaking the bank!
