One Piece Episode 1097 Review: Saul Lives! Dragon’s Past Revealed!

Shaka continues to explain the events of Ohara. Giants began fishing books out of the lake. Dr. Vegapunk was concerned with this behavior but Monkey D. Dragon explained that the Giants intended to take the books to Elbaf to keep them from the World Government. So Vegapunk headed to Elbaf to study from the books. The Ohara Incident was the event that inspired Monkey D. Dragon to join forces with Emporio Ivankov and Bartholomew Kuma to create the Revolutionary Army. Before bring the Strawhat’s to the security room, Shaka reveals that the leader of the giants was Saul.

Luffy and the others question Vegapunk. He explains that he ate the Nomi Nomi no Mi devil fruit. He became the “Brain Human,” and is capable of absorb “nigh-infinite” amounts of knowledge. However, his brain gets larger the more knowledge he possess resulting in his enormous head. To compensate for this he “detached his brain and replaced it with an antennae. The ever expanding brain is called “Punk Records,” and is the giant egg that floats over the island.

Each of his personalities, Shaka, Lilith, Edison, Pythagoras, Atlas, and York all use the brain. Bonney attacks Vegapunk with a beam saber. She wants justice for her father. Unfortunately, the saber attracts insects and Bonney faints. Vegapunk claims that the saber is a failure due to this fact. He also says that Momonosuke’s Devil Fruit is a failure. Even though the powers Kaido’s Uo Uo no Mi: Model: Seiryu was duplicated, the artificial Devil Fruit made Momonosuke a “pink,” dragon instead of a “azure,” one.

Luffy questions Vegapunk about the robot. Vegapunk states that it wasn’t his creation. It was built 200 years ago and attacked Mary Geoise. Elsewhere, Rob Lucci is heading to Egghead Island to kill Vegapunk. It was only a matter of time before the World Government turned on Vegapunk. He’s not really in support of the government but as he told Dragon he needs their resources to do his experiments. It was interesting to see Dragon in a more direct manner. While he hates war (according to Vegapunk) Dragon has no choice but to stop the World Government. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing Luffy verses Lucci part 2.
