Let’s get another easy one out there with this prompt.

Would you rather have your favourite anime be mainstream or unpopular?

Well, you see, as a distinguished anime connoisseur and blogger of the highest calibre, clearly I would never want to be associated with whatever drivel the common folk associate themselves with, nor would I be caught dead favouring an anime that’s well established to be abhorred by the masses…

This is quite the conundrum I find myself in!

Jokes aside, the reality is that I don’t really care all that much about what anime fans in general think of the anime I like. That said, if I had to give an answer, I think I would choose unpopular.

My reasoning for this is that I’d rather think of my favourite anime as something similar to a hidden gem rather than something that’s plastered all over the place and hyped up. I’m guilty of having that feeling of opposition towards watching something when it’s been hyped up to oblivion, because I find that more often than not hype tends to ruin things for me and the expectations I have going in. I always try to temper my expectations these days, but even still I sometimes find myself feeling disappointment here and there when I experience something that’s been hyped up.

You could argue that mainstream is the better choice though, because that would mean there’s going to be more money and support going towards the series meaning it’ll be more likely to get additional seasons and whatnot, as well as just more discussion and content online. Which I think for the most part is a good thing, as so many great series suffer from the ultimate disappointment of never making it to a proper ending. That said, there’s the flip side of that which is that some series are milked for cash to the point where new seasons are no good, and you may find yourself getting tired of the series a lot faster than if the series weren’t as popular…

So in the end, for me, I think I’d stick with the choice of something that’s unpopular.

Or as I’d like to put it, more niche!
