Lies that Democrats tell about abortion

Pro-abortion zealots make very emotional and inflammatory arguments about the necessity of abortion. They often try to appeal to emotion to manipulate public opinion to favor legalizing abortion. Anecdotes and declarations of the impending widespread death of women and mothers everywhere are the core tenets of their arguments. Other hypothetical scenarios to justify killing the unborn include it must be legal or else droves of women who have been raped or were impregnated by incest would be forced to give birth.

Yet, hardly any of that is true. They don’t have facts on their side, so instead, abortion enthusiasts regularly engage in incendiary statements, hate-filled allegations, and heinous fearmongering to promote their narratives and agendas. It is reminiscent of the reprehensible speeches made by the most villainous genocidal dictators in history.

So, why do women have abortions? What are the facts surrounding the medical procedure? Is it as many on the Left claim and mostly because of women who are raped or impregnated by incestuous relationships? What about dismissals about late-term abortions? Do women have abortions as late as the ninth month, or does that never happen? If one listens to the media, left-wing politicians, pundits, and pop culture icons, he or she will not get the truth.

Consider recent comments from CNN’s Jake Tapper. During an interview with Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH), Tapper discussed the outrage over late-term abortions and implied such a thing never happens.

“What is this nine-month abortion thing?” Tapper asked. “I’ve never heard of anyone getting an abortion like one day before they’re due. Republicans talk about this all the time.”

“I’ve never heard of it happening,” Tapper said.

But Tapper is uninformed. His ignorance doesn’t make it any less of a devastating reality.

For example, in 2019, Virginia Democratic Delegate Kathy Tran introduced a bill on late-term abortions. Her legislation would have loosened “restrictions on abortions during the third trimester of pregnancy, and allow abortions during the second trimester to take place outside hospitals.”

During questioning about her bill, Tran was asked: If “a woman is about to give birth, would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion if she was so certified? She’s dilating.”

“My bill would allow that, yes,” Tran answered.

She also specified that her bill would permit an abortion up to 40 weeks.

This was just one of many examples of something Tapper said did not occur, even though the incident made international news. Tapper was oblivious to it and insisted it did not happen. Yet he was wrong. So much for his reliability as a trusted news source.

Furthermore, consider the other available data regarding abortion. Despite left-wingers’ claims to the contrary, many abortions happen in the third trimester. Don’t let the deception and dishonesty of pro-abortion aficionados fool you.

There were 625,978 abortions in 2021, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 1% of these happened after 21 weeks. Additional statistics from a 2023 article in the Washington Post showed that approximately 10,000 babies were the victims of late-term abortions. To put this into further perspective, that was more than twice the number of professional athletes in the NFL (1,696), MLB (945), NBA (550), and NHL (1,123) — combined.

That is a lot of lives cut short in the last three months of pregnancy. And it’s a lot of babies who were killed due to something many on the Left claim is never happening.

These abortions were not necessarily done for health reasons, either. For example, according to a study by professors Diana Greene Foster and Katrina Kimport of the University of California, San Francisco, women who get late-term abortions fit into different specific profiles, including women who were “raising children alone” and “depressed or using illicit substances” and had “trouble deciding and then had access problems.”

In another example, one woman was not aware until 23 weeks that she was pregnant and aborted the baby that same week. There was no threat to her life. It was just for convenience.

Another dishonest claim made by abortion devotees is that women will die if abortion is not legal. It is a claim that has been made many times, including by the Center for American Progress, a left-wing, pro-abortion public policy organization.

“Pregnancy carries risks, including death. Without abortion access, more women will die,” an article from November 2022 on the organization’s website read.

Many politicians engaged in abortion disinformation as well. For example, after the recent Arizona court ruling that prohibited abortion in the state, many on the Left took to their usual pearl-clutching and hyperbolic hysteria. Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) was one such person.

During a recent interview on The View, Hobbs engaged in the propaganda spreading and fearmongering over the recent court ruling in her state about abortion.

“I know that Arizona women will die under this ban,” Hobbs said.

Hobbs was wrong. It is a typical sentiment expressed by the Left. However, it is untrue.

Yet, it is how Democrats weaponize fear and deception to try to accomplish their political objectives.

Furthermore, if deaths were really Hobbs’s primary concern, she would mention the thousands of babies who lost their lives because of abortion. However, Hobbs omitted this inconvenient truth.

The Left’s deception regarding abortion goes deeper, unfortunately. This is especially true when it comes to the left-wing insistence that abortion is not a tool used for birth control. One of the oft-repeated claims from the pro-abortion crowd is that it is a necessary medical procedure and not a procedure that is abused as a method of birth control or because a mother decided she no longer wanted a child because of inconvenience. However, much of the data available refute that information.

A 2016 study by the Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of the abortion-enthusiast organization Planned Parenthood, revealed the top reasons women have abortions. They are concerns for or responsibility to other people, the inability to afford a child, and the belief that having a baby would interfere with work, school, or the ability to care for dependents. Half said they did not want to be a single parent or had problems with their husband or partner.

These are not extreme medical problems that threaten the lives of the mother. They are problems that threaten their ability to live life without any consequences for irresponsible sexual behavior.

The Left hijacked the abortion topic and made dishonest narratives part of the mainstream argument. However, the facts easily refute many, if not all, of the claims abortion supporters make. All it takes to expose them is research and the desire to do so.

Republicans should welcome Democrats’ efforts to make abortion a topic in this election. The facts and the truth are on their side. The only thing needed to do is learn them.
