Democrats should love Tax Day

April 15 is one of the worst days of the year.

It is the day that state and federal income taxes are due in most states. While some get tax returns for overpaying taxes the previous year, others must pay the government thousands to avoid prison time. In turn, the government wastes that money on garbage and still can’t pay its bills.

However, big government Democrats want the government to spend even more money. In the case of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and his ilk, some people want the government to spend so much money that they can’t even estimate how much the social programs they want would cost. However, those costs would likely double or even triple the size of the federal government.

If liberals want a bigger government that requires more tax dollars and higher deficits, they should lead by example and contribute more money to the government.

All of the people who think taxes are the price we pay to live in America and that the country needs more welfare programs should at least be consistent. If they want the government to do more, they should acknowledge the government can do more if it takes more money from them. Luckily, these liberals can voluntarily provide the government with extra cash.

Uncle Sam won’t throw them in jail if they don’t claim every tax credit and deduction for which they are eligible. For example, if the standard deduction benefits them more on federal income taxes, they can take the itemized deduction. If they do so en masse, they can ensure the federal government has more money to fund President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda. Or, they could choose not to claim every tax credit they are eligible to receive.

If they live in Massachusetts, they can opt to pay a higher optional state income tax rate on the first $1 million they earn. They can pay 5.85% instead of the state’s 5% rate. Since big government Democrats are the people who typically support the state putting migrants from all over the world up at motels and hotels on the taxpayers’ dime, they should pay a little extra so the state doesn’t have to enact more budget cuts to fund its emergency shelter system.

Or, Democrats can write checks to the U.S. Department of the Treasury thanks to a program called Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt. It allows you to give the federal government more money at any time of the year to help pay down the national debt, $34.6 trillion, which Democrats run up with their social spending programs and we all pay for thanks to high taxes and inflation.

So, if you’re a Democrat and you think the country needs “Medicare for all,” a Green New Deal, or a universal basic income without cutting any existing programs, please consider giving the federal government some more of your hard-earned money. After all, the European social democracies you admire have sky-high tax rates.
