Daniels is the highest quarterback Washington has drafted since Robert Griffin III was the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Daniels and Griffin were both Heisman Trophy winners.

Washington has seen changes at the organizational level over the past eight months. The Commanders hired a new owner, Josh Harris, a new general manager, Adam Peters, and a new coach, Dan Quinn.
