New York hush money trial is ‘weakest’ case Trump faces: Sarah Bedford
The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford suggested former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York will likely have “the least impact” of all the criminal trials he faces.
While appearing on Your World with Neil Cavuto, Bedford noted that while the hush money trial is the “weakest” case against him, a conviction could sway voters in swing states ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
“There are polls, Neil, that show that some voters who have said that they currently plan to vote for Donald Trump might change their vote if he’s convicted of a felony. That’s what’s at stake in this case,” Bedford said. “Alvin Bragg, who is an elected Democrat, has structured the case so misdemeanor charges could be bumped up to felonies here. That could sway some voters on the margin.”
Bedford noted recent polling showing Trump in a statistical tie with his Democratic opponent, President Joe Biden.
“Losing a few voters on the margin in those swing states could impact the election,” she added. “But all that being said, this is the weakest case against him, it’s the one that’s arguably the most political, and it’s the one that, I think, would have the least impact on him if he was convicted versus all of the other criminal trials where he’s facing that possibility.”

Monday marked the first day of the first-ever criminal trial of a former president, which included the vetting of nearly a hundred prospective jurors. The day ended with 32 prospective jurors left as Judge Juan Merchan, defense attorneys, and prosecutors continued whittling down a pool of randomly selected Manhattan-area residents to serve on a 12-seat bench.
The case centers on a reimbursement payment Trump made to his former attorney Michael Cohen in 2016 after Cohen made a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, a porn star who alleges she had an affair with Trump in the mid-2000s.
