Demand for OJ Simpson memorabilia skyrockets after death

Demand for former NFL MVP and Pro Football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson memorabilia has skyrocketed in the wake of his death.

Simpson, who became infamous following the 1994 deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in what was dubbed the “trial of the century,” died Wednesday following a battle with cancer. He was 76.

Increased web traffic and purchases of Simpson collectibles has rocked the sports memorabilia marketplace since the 1968 Heisman winner died, according to a report citing Las Vegas store Inscriptagraphs Memorabilia.

At least 40 purchases of items, which varied greatly in price, were made Thursday morning, and the store intends to introduce more inventory to meet the demand, the report noted.

“It has been crazy. I can tell you right now, I have never come into our store as early as I did. As soon as the news dropped, myself and my staff came over and we immediately just started seeing just a huge amount of online traction for sale,” Tyler Feldman, CEO of Inscriptagraphs Memorabilia, said, according to a report.

“There was even people standing outside the door this morning when we arrived.”

Simpson lived close by the Tivoli Village location, and the former NFL star was fond of signing jerseys, footballs, helmets, baseballs, and toys, Feldman said.

“The fact that we had access to get signatures over the years, we had a good amount of inventory and we still do. It is selling very quickly, just the variety of items is just ridiculous,” Feldman said.

“One of our bestselling items is a baseball signed by O.J. Simpson. Well, we had him sign a bunch of those and that one is a top seller at the moment.”

One rare item in the store’s collection is a signed photo of Simpson that was taken as evidence in his 2007 robbery trial.

Simpson’s controversial past does not seem to deter people from buying his memorabilia, according to Feldman.

“People just love the conversation of saying, ‘I have an O.J.-signed jersey,’” he said.
