Ingredient Notes

An overhead view of the ingredients needed to make carne asada fries.
  • Nacho Dust: A blend of salt, ground cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and a hint of cayenne pepper. Use it on regular chip-based nachos too!
  • French Fries: use frozen french fries and bake or revive leftover fries. Our favorite choice is Ora Ida Extra Crispy Fast Food Fries. Any variety will work.
  • Carne Asada: Opt for our tried-and-true carne asada recipe for the best flavor, or simplify the process with pre-cooked carne asada from a trusted local carniceria. Just make sure it is sliced against the grain and then diced for easy eating.
  • Shredded Cheese: you can also use shredded cheddar, colby jack, Monterey jack, or even mozzarella. Quesadilla cheese are marvelous.
  • Toppings: the classic combo is sour cream, guacamole, fresh salsa (like pico de Gallo), cilantro, jalapenos, and red onion.

Reviving Leftover Fries

Got leftover french fries from fast food or a restaurant? You can totally revive them and they will work great for Carne Asada Fries.

Spread your fries out into a single layer on a baking sheet. Toss with our nacho dust, and then very lightly spray the fries with nonstick cooking spray. This will help them crisp back up. Bake at 425 degrees for about 5 to 7 minutes until warmed through and crispy.
