This easy-to-make Greek yogurt chocolate mousse recipe is both satisfying and guilt-free! It comes together super quickly, and we use the microwave instead of a double boiler to melt the chocolate to save on time and dishes. Why This Recipe Is So Great

I just love this recipe so much. Whipping the Greek yogurt makes it so creamy and smooth, and letting it set in the refrigerator for a few hours allows it to thicken into a consistency that is almost exactly that of traditional chocolate mousse.

A lot of chocolate mousse recipes call for using a double boiler to melt the chocolate. And while this is a great option, whenever I see a recipe that call for this technique to melt chocolate I usually keep scrolling. I just don’t have the time to boil water and slowly melt the chocolate!

So I tried to keep things extra simple by using dark chocolate chips and microwaving them in 30-second intervals until melted. It saves so much time, and it’s less dishes at the end!

Is Greek Yogurt Chocolate Mousse Healthy?

It’s healthier than traditional chocolate mousse! Chocolate mousse is typically made with heavy cream, eggs, sometimes butter, and semi-sweet chocolate. Since the base of this recipe is Greek yogurt, this recipe is lighter in calories and higher in protein.

It still contains sugar from the chocolate and honey, but not nearly as much as a traditional chocolate mousse.

How To Make It

You basically add all of the ingredients to a bowl and whisk it with an electric mixer. But here, let me break it down a little more. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full list of ingredients and instructions!

  1. Place the Greek yogurt in a mixing bowl. Add the honey, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt.

  2. To melt the chocolate, place it in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Mix well, and continue to microwave in 30-second intervals until melted. If you need to add a dash of milk or oil, you can.

  3. Pour the melted chocolate over the yogurt. Whisk using a hand mixer for 60 seconds, until well incorporated.

  4. Transfer the yogurt to a serving bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least two hours. Garnish with chopped chocolate and mint leaves, and enjoy!

Tips For Success

  • When microwaving the chocolate, make sure you are mixing well at least every 30 seconds to prevent burning. If it seems clumpy, try adding 1/8 tsp olive oil to the chocolate.

  • Allow the chocolate Greek yogurt mousse to set for at least two hours before enjoying. Immediately after whisking, it will be thin. It needs to be refrigerated in order to thicken to the proper consistency of mousse.

  • Use a whole-fat Greek yogurt. It’s well-rounded nutritionally, and its creaminess can make it seem more indulgent than nonfat Greek yogurt. And what is a healthy dessert recipe without a little indulgence?

  • You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  • 1 cup whole fat greek yogurt Cabot works great
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or wafers (see notes * 80% and up is best for antioxidants!)
  • chopped chocolate and mint leaves for garnish
