ANA Boeing 787-9 Lands at Okinawa With Oil Leak


An All Nippon Airways (ANA) Boeing 787-9 inbound from Osaka landed at Okinawa amid an oil leak on 5 April 2024.

ANA flight NH761, operated by a Boeing 787-9 registered JA833A, was on final approach for Okinawa Naha airport (OHA) when flight crew detected the oil leak.

The flight was established on short finals for Naha RWY18R when flight crew detected the anomaly and advised the control tower.

Oil Spillage Confirmed By Ground Crews

Emergency services vehicles were deployed as a precautionary measure, and the aircraft landed safely.

Having vacated the runway, emergency services personnel confirmed the presence of an oil leak. Oil spillage detected at the taxiway area was subsequently cleaned up.

The aircraft was subsequently then towed to the airport apron area from its position clear of the runway.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight H761 made an early departure out of Osaka Itami Airport (ITM) at 08:15 local time on five April. Scheduled departure time for the service was 08:35 local time.

The flight departed on set course normally on the southerly route to Okinawa. The aircraft climbed to flight level FL38 (38,000 feet), with the cruise and descent procedures conducted normally.

The specific details regarding the oil leak have not been disclosed, however flight crew noted the problem in the latter portion of the final approach.

A formal emergency was not declared, and the landing was conducted under normal operating procedures.

The aircraft conducting the regional service to Okinawa was a Boeing 787-9, registered JA833A.

This is a 9.6-year-old wide-body aircraft belonging to the Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA). The aircraft has been in service with the airline since delivery in September 2014.
