Trilliums leased ex SP GP35 3502 backs up to a group of suspected storage cars in preparation for moving them to a new location.

This line was once a the Wabash’s (leased from CN) Air Line, running from the boarder crossing in Fort Erie/Buffalo to St Thomas, and ultimately on to Detroit. It was Wabash’s attempt to compete with New York Centrals CASO (Canada Southern) bridge line across southern Ontario, but the CASO was always the more dominant of the two.

This part of the line was first relegated to a branchline designation in the late 60’s when the Welland Canal was re-routed. A wye was built here (hidden by the foliage) to allow for the Cayuga to run under the canal in a newly built tunnel which was shared with Penn Central and TH&B (under Penn Central running rights). The wye is still intact; Trillium uses the wye for car and locomotive storage as it is no longer a through route (end of steel being a few miles behind the locomotive here). The once critical main line is barely visible now with the weed growth, a typical and unwelcome part of late summer in southern Ontario.
