About the photograph.
This photograph is of a boat docked at a jetty or pier, in the harbour at the seaside town of Aberystwyth.
I went to Aberystwyth on Friday 1st September and stayed there for a couple of nights, the reason being that I was there to take photos of the motorsports event called Rali Ceredigion, which is a rally cars sport event that took place on 2nd and 3rd of September.
I invited my best friend to come with me. She had no interest in motorsports, the reason I asked her to come with me was because she was born there, and spent most of her childhood life growing up there. It makes senses to invite my friend to come with me, as she gets a free ride to her birthplace, and see her family while I go and shoot the rally event.
On Saturday the 2nd, after taking photos of the rally motorsports event in the morning, she and I went around town, and I asked her if we could visit the harbour as I would like to take some photos of boats and maritime themed subject. She agreed, and she also kind of became my guide, showing me around.
I was trying to get some interesting shots of boats, looking for interesting subjects, different angles, and many other things. This is one of the boats I took photos of.
In Adobe Lightroom, I opt to change it into black and white, because when I was a teenager at college, I used to do a lot of black and white photos, and printed them myself. I kind of miss doing darkroom work.
About Rali Ceredigion.
This is a rally motorsports event that took place over the weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September 2023 in and near the seaside town of Aberystwyth, as part of the 2023 British Rally Championship.
I have taken many photos of the event on Saturday, and will process the photos, select some, and upload to my Flickr account maybe in next few months. I have a lot of other selected photos waiting for their turn to get uploaded, so it will be a while for me to slot the new photos into the list of waiting for uploading.
About Aberystwyth.
Aberystwyth is a Welsh coastal town and community in the county of Ceredigion, Wales, with a population of approximately up to about 16,000. It is located roughly more or less at the middle point along the west coast of Wales, and next to Cardigan Bay.
It was said that on a very clear day, you could make out the landmass of Ireland across the sea.
The earliest records of Aberystwyth are around early 1100s with the building of a fortress on a hill, on the south bank of the Ystwyth River, and this gave the town its name of Aberystwyth.
The fort was destroyed, and around the 1270s, a new castle was built in Aberystwyth until about 1649 when it was damaged during the English Civil War.
The building of the harbour had helped the town’s economic growth during late 18th and early 19th centuries, then around about the 1860s, a railway line reached the town, and this in turn, gave it a tourist boom.
It then became a popular holiday destination for most of the middle and working class people.
Aberystwyth University started life from around 1870s, and the National Library of Wales started from around 1900s.
