A large group of king penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) gathered in a stream near Fortuna Bay on the remote and mountainous island of South Georgia. The penguin chicks, around 11 months old here, are in the process of transitioning to their adult plumage, while the adults are starting their annual molt. Located 800 miles southeast of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia is a sub-Antarctic island known for its massive concentrations of wildlife, especially penguins and fur seals.
