Apple Watch Series 10 Could Get Long-Awaited Battery Boost, Thanks To This Display Technology



This year’s Apple Watch Series 10 could mark a significant advancement in battery life, as per a recent supply chain report. The rumoured improvement stems from the adoption of new display technology, promising lower power consumption and increased efficiency across the board.

The report, originating from The Elec, suggests that the Apple Watch Series 10 will integrate an upgraded OLED display featuring low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology.

Currently, the Apple Watch’s OLED screen utilizes LTPO TFT primarily for two switching transistors, while the rest employ the less efficient low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology. However, for Series 10, The Elec speculates a broader implementation of LTPO technology across more transistors.

Impact of LTPO TFT

The utilization of LTPO TFT entails applying oxide to the driving TFT and some switching TFTs among the 7 to 8 TFTs present. This shift aims to bolster power efficiency by reducing leakage current, with oxide technology assuming a more prominent role.

In simpler terms, the incorporation of LTPO technology in the Apple Watch Series 10’s OLED display signifies a notable enhancement in power efficiency. This translates to prolonged battery life, a feature of utmost significance for users.
