Victor Osimhen was on target for Napoli in the Serie A as the Partenopei came from behind to thrash Monza 4-2 at the U-Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Napoli had the better of the opening eight minutes but conceded against the run of play as Milan Duric opened the scoring in the 10th minute in what is his first goal for the Biancocelesti.

The Partenopei could have found their way back into the game just before half-time, but a late VAR review denied Francesco Calzona’s side a penalty after Victor Osimhen went down inside the area.

Nonetheless, a ruthless display from Napoli in the second half turned around the game as goals from Victor Osimhen, Matteo Politano, and Piotr Zielinski gave the visitors a 3-1 lead.

The Biancocelesti tried to stage a comeback when Andrea Colpani scored in the 62nd minute but a fourth Napoli goal from substitute Giacomo Raspadori 22 minutes from time put the icing on the cake for Calzona’s men who picked up all three points.

Victor Osimhen ends goal drought at Monza

Before today’s game, Victor Osimhen was last on the score sheet for Napoli in the 6-1 demolition of Sassuolo on February 28 where he bagged a hat-trick.

Since then, the 25-year-old has endured a difficult time up-front for his team without scoring or assisting.

Victor Osimhen failed to find the back of the net in the entire month of March where he featured in three league matches and one game in the Champions League.

He blanked against Juventus, Torino, Barcelona, and Atalanta, games which ensured that Napoli crashed out of the Champions League and further dampened their chances of making the top four in the domestic league.

However, Victor Osimhen has started April on a good note as he leveled things up for Napoli after Monza went to the break ahead.

Frank Anguissa sent a superb cross into the box and Osimhen latched on it to power a powerful header in the 55th minute into the left side of the goal post with goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio failing to keep it out.

With the Nigerian back to scoring for his team today in what is his 12th league goal of the season, it’ll be interesting to see if the Super Eagles hitman can go on a scoring streak for Napoli as they aim to chase a spot in Europe next season.

What’s next for Napoli?

Napoli will welcome Frosinone to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples next Sunday for Round 32 fixture of the Serie A season.

The fight for a Champions League spot looks very difficult to achieve for Napoli as they’re 10 points behind Bologna who currently occupy the fourth position.

However, if Calzona’s side win all their remaining seven matches and the teams above them somehow drop points, they could at least get a spot in the Europa League.

Ahead of their meeting with Frosinone, Napoli are seventh on the Serie A table after 31 matches. They have 48 points from 13 wins and nine draws.
