Unveiling the Biblical Meaning of the Rainbow –

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant, between me and the earth.”

Genesis 9:13 (NIV)

As I sit here and ponder the issue at hand, I cannot help but feel a deep sense of frustration and anger. It is truly disheartening to see the LGBTQ+ Movement co-opting the rainbow as their signature symbol. This symbol, which was once a beautiful and innocent representation of hope and promise, has now been tarnished by those who seek to normalize their sexual perversions and sin.

It is important to note that the rainbow has a rich history and meaning that extends far beyond the LGBTQ+ Movement. In many cultures, the rainbow is seen as a symbol of peace, harmony, and unity. It is a natural phenomenon that has captivated humans for centuries, inspiring countless works of art and literature.

However, the LGBTQ+ Movement has chosen to ignore this rich history and instead use the rainbow as a tool to promote their agenda. This is deeply troubling, as it shows a lack of respect for the cultural significance of the symbol and a disregard for the feelings of those who hold it dear.

Furthermore, the use of the rainbow as a symbol for the LGBTQ+ Movement is not only disrespectful, but it is also misleading. The rainbow is not a symbol of sexual orientation or gender identity, and it is wrong to use it as such. This only serves to confuse and mislead people, further perpetuating the harmful stereotypes and misconceptions that surround the LGBTQ+ community.

The True Meaning of the Rainbow

Genesis 9:12-15 states: “And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.”

The rainbow reassured Noah and his family that a flood on the same scale will never take place again. After the flood, God made an everlasting covenant with Noah, his family, their descendants, and all the living creatures. He promised never again to destroy the earth by a flood. The rainbow was the sign of that promise – a reminder of God’s commitment to the earth.

The rainbow is precious. It’s a symbol of what theologians call God’s common grace – the grace He shows to all people saved and unsaved alike. With the rainbow God promised to restrain his wrath. He promised never again to visit destruction on the earth in the same way. Judgement was delayed, for Noah, his descendants, and for the rest of creation. God would continue to provide rain and sun. He would provide seasons and harvest. Land could be worked, crops could be grown.

The Reality We’re Living In 2023

As you peruse the clothing section of your local Target or take a leisurely stroll through your neighborhood, particularly during the month of June, it is highly probable that you will come across a ubiquitous symbol adorning t-shirts or fluttering on flags: the rainbow. The vibrant hues of red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, and violet are immediately associated with the LGBTQ+ Pride movement by most individuals.

This association is not surprising, given the widespread availability of Pride-themed merchandise in stores, schools, and neighborhoods. The rainbow has become an emblem of inclusivity and acceptance, representing the diversity of the LGBTQ community and its allies. Its presence in public spaces serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equal rights and the need for continued advocacy.

Today, the rainbow flag is often paired with images of same-sex couples or phrases like “love is love,” further emphasizing the message of acceptance and inclusivity. It is a symbol that has transcended borders and cultures, uniting people from all walks of life in a shared celebration of diversity and love.

How did this association come about? Who decided on the counterfeit rainbow as the staple image to represent the LGBTQ+ community?

With June being the designated “Pride Month,” the LGBTQ+ community and supporters push the sale of as much rainbow gear as possible. In preparation for the month, conservative leaders have spoken up, calling people to take the rainbow symbol back.

“The rainbow is and always will be a sign of the covenant God made with his people,” wrote conservative author and influencer David Harris. “The woke mob may try to twist its meaning, but we won’t let their foolishness prevail. It\’s time to reclaim the rainbow for His purpose!!”

The fact is, God defines marriage because He created it. We don’t get to argue with Him about it or throw a tantrum. He made marriage, He gets to set the terms. It’s between a man and a woman. Period.

It seems significant that the LGBTQ+ rainbow is a counterfeit of a real rainbow because everything about the sexual revolution is a counterfeit of good things God created. Satan has always been in the habit of taking good things and modifying them slightly so they have similarities to good things but are not good things.

As we walk through the month of June, let us heed the instruction Peter wrote to God’s elect and remember to stand firm in our faith and convictions. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).
