Europe’s Top 50 Largest Airports in 2021 — by Number of Flights

Since Corona still has a massive impact on Europe’s airlines and airports, many rankings look different. However, we wanted to know the details. Therefore, we’ve analyzed the traffic figure of Europe’s airports from February to July 2021. As a result, we present Europe’s Top 50 Largest Airports in 2021.

Europe’s Largest Airports: Rank 1-10

Most of the Top 10 airports were also part of the Top 10 before Corona. However, the ranking looked totally different in 2019. At the moment, Istanbul’s Ataturk airport wins the title of Europe’s largest airport. Compared to Amsterdam on position two, IST operated 8,000 additional flights. Moreover, Istanbul is the only airport that operated more than 50,000 flights during the monitored period.

Besides that, it is interesting to see that Russia plays a very dominant role. Three of the top ten airports are based in Russia. The former biggest airport, London Heathrow, ranks 10th. Due to COVID, LHR operates only half the flight volume Istanbul does.
