Spider-Man Knows His Own Strength and it is Terrifying

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin proves that Peter Parker knows exactly how powerful and terrifying he truly is as his titular counterpart.

Spider-Man is headed back to one of his most iconic eras of all time. However, he might also be dangerously close to crossing the line because of it.

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #1 brings readers back to a time shortly after Peter Parker gained his incredible powers. Unfortunately, the budding young hero is still reeling from the then-recent death of his beloved Uncle Ben. When Peter takes it upon himself to stop an armed mugger on the street, all the pain he feels over Ben’s death comes out in terrifying fashion, and in seconds Spider-Man is ready to deliver what would certainly be a lethal punch to the man who pulled a gun on him.

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin picks up after Peter Parker’s transformation into the titular hero, yet prior to his longtime nemesis Norman Osborn’s transformation into the Green Goblin. Instead, the series introduces a new villain, Nels Van Adder, who has been described as a “Proto-Goblin” of sorts thanks to his own transformation into a red, hulking monstrosity with close ties to Oscorp.

The largely unseen action of the issue is undercut by Peter’s struggles with his newfound strength, as well as the toll that his superheroic lifestyle has on his family. Apart from Peter’s guilt over the loss of Uncle Ben, he has to deal with the wrath of Aunt May, who has become particularly defensive of her family in the days following her husband’s death.

Thanks to its setting, Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #1 also includes appearances from longtime fan favorites such as Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn. Spider-Man

Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics’ most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man’s most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character’s lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O’Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.

Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he’s changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
