The following contains major spoilers for Spider-Boy #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Spider-Boy is reliving his darkest moment all over again. Even worse, there still isn’t anything that he can do about it.
After being incapacitated and captured by the hulking Hellifino, the titular hero of Spider-Boy #6 awakens to find himself chained up within the confines of Madame Monstrosity’s sprawling laboratory. As bad as that is on its own, his closest friend and confidant, Christina, is trapped along with him, all so that she can be subjected to Madame Monstrosity’s experiments just as his former best friend Eli Hartman was when he was transformed.

Introduced in the pages of 2023’s Amazing Spider-Man #31 in Slott and Medina’s story “The Mother of Invention,” Madame Monstrosity is the matriarch of the Stillwell family. Though her only living child is currently Empire Unlimited’s very own Doctor Shannon Stillwell, Madame Monstrosity was also the mother of Farley and Harlan Stillwell, who were each instrumental in creating iconic Spider-Man villains such as the Scorpion and Human Fly.
Madame Monstrosity has since been revealed to be personally responsible for many, if not all, of the developments made regarding the creation of such human-animal hybrids. Thanks to Spider-Boy’s unique origin, Madame Monstrosity has no memories of creating him. This coupled with the embarrassment she suffered in front of the High Evolutionary due to Spider-Boy’s escape has driven her to horrifying lengths in her efforts to recapture the young hero.
X-Men Writer Returns for Untold Wolverine Story
Longtime X-Men scribe and comic book creator, Chris Claremont, teams up with Edgar Salazar for a trip through Wolverine’s unpublished past.
Bailey Briggs, better known as Spider-Boy, made his comic book debut in 2023’s Spider-Man #7 by Slott and artist Mark Bagley. After the Web of Life and Destiny was repaired following the Spider Army’s final confrontation with the insectile villain Shathra, Spider-Boy was effectively born into existence out of nothing. Though Bailey has a near full recollection of his life, including several years serving as Peter Parker’s superpowered sidekick, the rest of the Marvel Universe has no memory of either Bailey or his alter-ego whatsoever. This has not only left Bailey without anyone to turn to but also put him at odds with his elder heroes, including Spider-Man, many of whom initially considered him an unfortunate liability more so than a genuine hero in his own right.
