Immortal Thor’s Worst Enemy Brings Him to the End of the World

The following contains major spoilers for Immortal Thor #9, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

One of Thor’s worst enemies is planning the end of the world. And, to make matter worse, the God of Thunder has just stepped into the crossfire.

Immortal Thor #9 finds the titular Asgardian crashing into the office of his old enemy and current CEO of Roxxon, Dario Agger. Better known as the Minotaur, Dario has spent months orchestrating what he is sure will be the downfall of not just Asgard, but Midgard as well, and he is more than happy to show the God of Thunder what the end of the world under Roxxon’s rule will look like.

Introduced in the pages of 2014’s Thor: God of Thunder #19.NOW by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribić, Dario Agger’s career began as a corporate entrepreneur and media investor who sold his very own soul in the hopes of acquiring greater power than he had ever known. As a member of the Dark Council, Agger has spent countless hours toiling away at various schemes that would ensure the downfall of Asgard and see him take control of the Ten Realms, whereas his career as the CEO of Roxxon has given him limitless resources with which to wage war against the world’s heroes.

In recent months, Agger and Roxxon made the move to acquire the version of Marvel Comics that exists within the confines of the primary Marvel Universe. In doing so, Agger has set himself up to rewrite Thor’s history from the ground up, giving him and his villainous allies Amora the Enchantress and Skurge the Executioner the opportunity to take their greatest adversary off the playing field entirely.

Eisner Award-winning creator and X-Men: Grand Design artist, Ed Piskor, passes away at the age of 41.

This move has paved the way for the upcoming introduction of a new, corporate-sponsored Thor in the pages of the upcoming Roxxon Presents: Thor series from writer Al Ewing and artist Greg Land. Previously, Ewing discussed the implications of the series, noting that while “the fictional Marvel Comics in the Marvel Universe told the ‘true stories’ of non-fictional-to-them superheroes,” Roxxon’s acquisition of the company gives them the opportunity to “run propaganda in-universe on any Marvel hero who’s given the company the right to publish their adventures.”
