Skybound has released a first-look interior page preview and new variant covers for the Energon Universe’s Void Rivals #9. The upcoming issue, arriving in May, will introduce the fan favorite Autobot Springer to the Energon Universe.

Skybound‘s VoidRivals #9 preview reveals Darak carrying Solila through a desert wasteland, where the pair stumble upon the iconic Autobot. Skybound’s description of the upcoming series installment reads, “In Void Rivals #9, Darak and Solila cling to life deep in the wasteland and find–SPRINGER?! It’s the first Energon Universe appearance of everyone’s favorite Triple-Changer Autobot!” Oblong Song collaborators Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma) provide the writing and art for Void Rivals #9, respectively. The book will feature a main cover by De Felici and variant covers by Ricardo Lopez Ortiz, André Lima Araújo, Chris O’Halloran, Caspar Wijngaard, and Tonci Zonjic.

The Transformers and G.I Joe shared Energon Universe officially began last summer with the surprise first appearance of the iconic Transformers character Jetfire in Void Rivals by Kirkman, De Felici, and Mateus Lopes (Step by Bloody Step). Daniel Warren Johnson (Extremity, Do a Powerbomb, DC’s Wonder Woman: Dead Earth), Jorge Corona (Middlewest), and Mike Spicer set a brand-new Transformers era in motion for the iconic franchise. The Energon Universe further expanded with the launch of Josh Williamson’s Duke and Cobra Commander limited series.

Thundercracker Returns in Transformers

Skybound also recently unveiled a first-look preview and new variant covers for the Energon Universe’s Transformers #8. In the upcoming issue, the Autobots and Decepticons make some tough choices to survive on Earth. The preview for Transformers #8 features the return of the ever-conflicted Decepticon, Thundercracker, whose presence is teased to change the war on Cybertron forever.

In addition to series colorist Spicer and writer Johnson’s main cover, the list of variant covers for Transformers #8 includes a version by Corona and an incentive variant beginning a new connecting cover series by Karen S.
