Cobra Commander marks the second comic book series to enter Skybound’s shared Energon Universe. Currently, this shared comic book universe includes both the Transformers and G.I. Joe properties. The first of these comics was the recently concluded Duke miniseries from Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire. Currently, there are two more such miniseries planned to continue folding G.I. Joe characters into the world currently inhabited by the likes of the Autobots and Skybound’s original property, Void Rivals.

Skybound’s Energon Universe kicked off in the pages of Void Rivals from writer Robert Kirkman and artists Lorenzo De Felici and Patricio Delpeche. The series saw Transformers‘ Jetfire make a surprise appearance in the otherwise seemingly unconnected reality of Void Rivals, establishing the basis for the Energon Universe as a shared reality for the properties.
