A Power Rangers Super Team Gets Derailed in First Look
The Power Rangers‘ Darkest Hour is quickly approaching its end. Thankfully, a fan-favorite team of comic book heroes are on their way to join in the fight.
BOOM! Studios dropped a preview of the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120. The first look recapped the story of the Solar Rangers before the heroes are seen fighting tirelessly against the forces of Dark Specter. As the battle rages on, the heroes very nearly cut one another down in the chaos. Thankfully, the Solar Rangers are more than capable of avoiding any friendly fire, though whether they can hold their own against Dark Specter’s army still remains to be seen.

Introduced in 2019’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #39 by writer Marguerite Bennet and artist Simone Di Meo, the modern Solar Rangers are comprised of members from various Ranger teams from across time and space. These include the Yellow Zeo Ranger Tanya Sloan, Mike Corbett’s Magna Defender, Dino Charge Dark Ranger Heckyl, Green Samurai Ranger Cameron Watanabe, original Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger Kimberly Ann Hart, and Red Space Ranger Andros. The team also includes Remi and Ellarien, the Orange and Purple Solar Rangers respectively, both of whom currently hail from the extradimensional space known as the Void.
BOOM! Studios’ “Darkest Hour” storyline has seen the forces of Dark Specter invade not just the Rangers’ world, but the expanse of the Morphin Grid itself. Due to Dark Specter’s influence, numerous Power Rangers have found themselves caught under his thrall upon accessing their abilities. This has led several remaining Rangers to either eschew their powers altogether, all while their teammates search for any means of staving off the seemingly imminent destruction at hand.

The Power Rangers of the small screen have seen plenty of betrayal, but their comic book counterparts have kept some truly disturbing secrets.
Throughout the course of Darkest Hour, the Power Rangers have faced off against all manner of threats ranging from the recently transformed Rita Repulsa, now Mistress Vile, to Dark Specter himself within the Vessel that used to be the body of none other than the heroes’ mentor – Zordon. Darkest Hour has also pitted the Rangers against fellow heroes such as Matthew Cook, Promethea’s Green Ranger who tragically fell under Mistress Vile’s spell. While the event is set to conclude in the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1, the issue will also mark the end of BOOM! Studios’ eight-year run on the franchise.
