Trump denies sleeping in court and instead closes his ‘beautiful blue eyes’ and listens ‘intensely’

Former President Donald Trump denied reports that he has been sleeping during his court appearances for his New York hush money trial, instead saying he does “simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes.”

Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to claim that he listens “intensely” and “takes it ALL in” when he momentarily closes his eyes while in the Manhattan courtroom.

“Contrary to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA, I don’t fall asleep during the Crooked D.A.’s Witch Hunt, especially not today,” Trump posted. “I simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes, listen intensely, and take it ALL in!!!”

Multiple reporters at the courthouse have noted that Trump has closed his eyes and appeared to doze off over various days in court.

Trump returned to court on Thursday after the weekly Wednesday recess. During his day out of court, he campaigned in Wisconsin and Michigan as he seeks a second term in the White House in a rematch against President Joe Biden.

In court on Thursday, the jury heard testimony from porn star Stormy Daniels’s former attorney Keith Davidson, who said he “would never” describe the $130,000 payment Trump made to Daniels as “hush money.”

The trial is in its third week and is expected to last six to eight weeks. It is the first of four criminal trials Trump is slated to have as a result of the various indictments handed down in 2023.
