Three kidnapped UNICAL students regain freedom

The three students of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, who were kidnapped two weeks ago have regained their freedom.

LIB reported that gunmen stormed Freedom Hostel, owned by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Friday night, March 29, 2024, and whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Effiong Eyo, on Friday, April 12, 2024, noted that the students, Ojang Precious Ebejin, Ugwu Chukwuemeka and Damilola Dickson, were released unharmed and have been re-united with their parents.

The statement further noted that the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Obi, who received the students in her office on Friday, thanked security agencies in the state for their collaboration and sustained efforts that led to the release of the students.

The Vice Chancellor also thanked parents of the students for their efforts and collaboration with the school management, during the period of their children’s captivity.

She advised students on campus to be cautious about their movements and to always report any signs of suspected movements around them to the school security personnel for prompt action.
