We are grateful for the interest in our study examining whether antireflux surgery prevents esophageal adenocarcinoma to a larger degree than antireflux medication in patients with Barrett’s esophagus.1 In our study, the overall hazard ratio was not decreased in patients having undergone antireflux surgery, as hypothesized, but rather increased. Instead of decreasing, the hazard ratios increased with length of follow-up in the antireflux surgery group compared with the medication group. In the following paragraphs we address the comments in 3 letters to the editor regarding our article.
