In this Healio video exclusive, Jeffrey Roberts, MS, BSc, shares details about World IBS Day, April 19, which aims to raise awareness and support for patients with irritable bowel syndrome with the theme, “Light Up the Sky for IBS.”
“IBS is often stigmatized and misunderstood,” Roberts, founder of World IBS Day and the IBS Patient Support Group and co-founder of Tuesday Night IBS, told Healio. “I wanted to increase awareness and let patients know that they weren’t alone. I also wanted to support health care professionals in the industry who provide a better quality of life for patients with IBS.”
Now in its fifth year, World IBS Day encourages patients, health care professionals, industry partners and other advocates to illuminate buildings and bridges in periwinkle — the official color of IBS — and use the hashtag, #WorldIBSDay2024, on social media platforms. This year’s event is supported by partner Ardelyx, which will light the Prudential Center in Boston, along with its other buildings across the country.
According to Roberts, World IBS Day is now recognized in 17 countries.
“All of the events for World IBS Day are located at worldibsday.org and we ask everyone to socialize World IBS Day on April 19th with the hashtag #WorldIBSDay2024,” he said.
