Idu uno is last stage of the marriage rites in Igbo tradition. The bride’s family sends forth their daughter to her husbands home with variety of kitchen utensils, plates, pots, mortar/pestle, kitchen equipment etc. as it is believed that the kitchen is under the control of the wife and moreso it is the wife’s duty to make meals for the family under separation of powers. It is pertinent to note that it is the bride’s family that sponsors the so called “traditional” marriage because they are the ones hosting the groom and his family. Back then, it was not expensive to host events because food, meat and palmwine cost next to nothing as that era was mainly agrarian.
