Dundee’s Scottish Premiership match with Motherwell will go ahead after passing a third pitch inspection.

The surface was protected from heavy rainfall by covers hired from Celtic in a bid to avoid a fifth Dens Park postponement this term.

The surface was deemed playable on Thursday, but after a second inspection by referee David Dickinson on Saturday morning, a third took place at 13:00.

But despite the pitch looking heavily-sanded, the game will go ahead.

Motherwell apologised to their fans for any inconvenience, while Dundee thanked “club staff, contractors and wonderful volunteers who all played their part” in assisting.

Another potential call-off could have resulted in a fixture headache for the SPFL, with the Premiership’s pre-split games set to conclude next week and Dundee due to play Rangers in a rescheduled match on Wednesday.

Peterhead’s trip to Bonnyrigg Rose and Elgin City v Spartans in the fourth tier both go ahead after passing pitch inspections, as does Stirling Albion’s League 1 encounter with Alloa Athletic.
