Consideration of Defining the Detailed Target Population and Mortality Rates: Key Factors in Achieving Generalizable Results



We read with great interest the article by Yoo et al1 in Gastroenterology. The authors addressed the research question of Helicobacter pylori eradication after endoscopic resection (ER) of gastric intraepithelial neoplasia, a clinically important question for which the existing evidence was inconclusive. The authors impressively overcame the limitations of sample size and follow-up time inherent in previous studies to provide accurate real-world evidence. Because this study is from South Korea, a country with a high proportion of H pylori carriage, the results are likely to be highly influential for many countries, especially those in East Asia, which also have high carriage rates.
