Concert Health, WellSpan Health partner to support PCPs in Pennsylvania

Behavioral healthcare company Concert Health is partnering with WellSpan Health to allow the health system’s South Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland primary care providers to provide same-day behavioral health services to patients through the digital health startup’s platform.

Concert Health offers primary care, women’s health and pediatric providers with behavioral health support for conditions like anxiety and depression utilizing a collaborative care model.

The company uses referrals, prescription data and screening across a practice’s population to find patients who may benefit from behavioral health services. It then connects them with a behavioral care manager through a phone or video call.

“In order to expand access to care and fully meet the needs of their community, forward-looking health systems like WellSpan are investing in whole person health. They recognize primary care providers are already supporting the majority of behavioral health needs, and by broadening the care continuum, they’ll be able to more effectively support their patients with a comprehensive care plan. We’re honored to partner with WellSpan and work in tandem to expand access, deliver better outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction,” Concert Health cofounder and CEO Spencer Hutchins told MobiHealthNews in an email.

Through the partnership, WellSpan patients will be connected to Concert Health within 24 to 48 hours for symptom monitoring, counseling assistance and medication services. The digital health company’s providers will work with WellSpan physicians to provide guidance to the primary care provider and behavioral health team.

“This partnership with Concert Health builds on our mission at WellSpan to make sure we meet our patients where they are with quick access to behavioral healthcare in their time of need,” Dr. David Vega, WellSpan SVP and chief medical officer, told MobiHealthNews. “Connecting these providers through our MyWellSpan patient portal will create a seamless patient experience to keep their care journey as straight forward as possible.”

THE LARGER TREND

In 2021, Concert Health secured $14 million in Series A funding

A year later, the company scored $42 million in a Series B round and partnered with North Carolina-based healthcare provider Med First to integrate its behavioral health services into the provider’s primary care clinics.

Last year, Concert announced that 30 providers in Wisconsin’s Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties will use its behavioral healthcare services through healthcare provider Froedtert Health to enhance care for pediatric, primary care and women’s health patients.

Earlier this year, KeyCare, maker of a virtual care platform built with the Epic EHR, announced it was partnering with Pennsylvania-based integrated healthcare system WellSpan Health to assist with the care system’s expansion into virtual primary care and behavioral health services.
