A Seemingly Benign Pancreatic Cyst With an Unsettling Trend of Enlarging Size and Associated Symptoms

Question: A 62-year-old woman was incidentally diagnosed with a well circumscribed hypoattenuating cyst in the head of the pancreas during a computed tomographic (CT) scan while being evaluated for nonspecific colitis. Subsequent magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the presence of a well circumscribed, T1-hypointense, T2-hyperintense cystic mass measuring 3.5 × 3.3 cm in the head of the pancreas (Figure A). Mild dilation was observed in the common bile duct secondary to an earlier cholecystectomy.
