60 PDP Rep members threaten to quit the party, demand resignation of the party

About 60 members of the Peoples Democratic Party elected into the House of Representatives have called for the resignation of the party’s Acting National Chairman Umar Ililya Damagum.

The federal lawmakers who accused Damagum of handing over the structure of the leadership of the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he should immediately be replaced by someone from the North Central in line with the constitution of the party.

Hon Ugochinyere Ikenga, who led five other lawmakers to address reporters at the National Assembly on Monday, delivered the threat on behalf of the 60 PDP lawmakers. He accused Damagum of engaging in anti-party activities, and selling the party “for a plate of porridge.”

Ikenga noted that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had not been consistent in opposition over the years, he would have not succeeded as President today.

The PDP lawmakers also threatened to leave the opposition party if their demands were not met.
