We all know that the Gold Coast is famous for some of the best beaches, nightlife, shopping and dining in Australia. But many people don’t know some of these secret spots that you can find in this amazing part of the world. From golden stretches of sand to stunning waterfalls and rainforest – you’ll find it all here!
With a wealth of fantastic accommodation, you won’t find it difficult to find something to suit your budget. You might, however, find it difficult to head home once you’ve experienced all that it has to offer.
Greenmount Beach
With 57 kilometres of beautiful coastline to choose from on the Gold Coast, you won’t struggle to find a magnificent stretch of sand to relax on. But if you’re looking to be transported to your own piece of tropical paradise you have to pay a visit to Greenmount Beach.
You could be forgiven for thinking you’re in the Seychelles with this pristine white sand and turquoise blue water. With the world-famous Snapper Rocks right on the doorstep, whether you want the thrill of the surf or a day soaking up the rays, Greenmount is a gem you will never forget.
Natural Bridge
If it’s natural beauty you’re seeking, you cannot afford to miss the Gold Coast Hinterland. Come and discover the green behind the gold! The word breathtaking doesn’t even come close to describing Natural Bridge. Lush, sub-tropical rainforest opens up to reveal this incredible hidden gem in the Springbrook National Park which is a Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area.
Created as a result of water cascading over the basalt rock cave for thousands of years, an added bonus of this unique place is that it’s home to a colony of glow-worms. Stay until evening and the kids (and big kids!) will be captivated to see thousands of mini torches light up the cave wall.
Cougal Cascades
Also in the Springbrook National Park, make sure you seek out Cougal Cascades. About 20 km inland from Currumbin Beach on the Currumbin Creek Road, Cougal Cascades is a slightly off-the-beaten-track alternative to some of the more popular spots on the Gold Coast. A scenic drive brings you to a rainforest walk that is suitable for all ages and abilities and culminates in a series of mountain rock pools and stunning small waterfalls. With plenty of spots for a picnic or a dip in the water, it’s a lovely, easy walk that immerses you in the sights and sounds of the rainforest, particularly if you have young kids.
The Gold Coast Hinterland is home to many other spectacular waterfalls including Twin Falls, Elabana Falls and Purling Brook Falls so if nature, wildlife and the rainforest are your ‘thing’, make sure you don’t miss these off your itinerary.
Mermaid Beach
Home to the Gold Coast’s most exclusive address, Hedges Avenue, otherwise known as ‘Millionaires Row’, Mermaid Beach is loved by locals for its laid-back charm, great eateries and small community vibe. This prime beachfront location is where some of the Gold Coast’s wealthiest residents have bought properties.
But you don’t need a huge bank account to enjoy all that this area has to offer. Take a stroll along the pristine sand and play a game of which beachfront beauty you would buy if you won the Lotto.<
The Spit & Main Beach
While The Spit and Main Beach can’t exactly be called hidden gems, they are a gateway to enjoying many of the water-based activities that the Gold Coast has to offer.
Between May and November every year, majestic humpback whales can be found playing just off-shore. Seeing these amazing mammals in their natural environment is an absolute must and you may even be lucky enough to see some of the other friendly sea life that calls the Gold Coast home including dolphins, turtles and rays.
You can also try your hand at scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, jet-skiing and sailing with a number of operators operating from along The Spit.
