Venus Sextile Pluto — Ruby Slipper Astrology

  • Venus in Aries square Vesta in Cancer (1 deg)

  • Venus sextile Pluto in Aquarius (1 deg)

  • Pluto quincunx Vesta (1 deg)

Sun/Ceres is a tense aspect that can trigger ambitious nurturing. As the significator of growth and death, Ceres always has an undercurrent of loss (she is named after the crop goddess whose daughter, Persephone, was abducted by Pluto, Lord of the Underworld). Even if no loss occurs, the fear is still there. With a hard square from the assertive Aries Sun we might see aggressive displays as attempts to combat potential loss. Mothering becomes competitive. Nurturing becomes a battle. “Outrunning” death.

Of course, we all know that lifecycles are beyond our control. A more productive use of this energy might look like freeing yourself from repressive mother/child traditions or ambitiously changing your part in the script regarding the rules of care while understanding that the larger cycle will progress with or without you. See what happens when your response is governed by the desire to move forward rather than fear.

Venus, Vesta and Pluto have their own little dance today. Venus’ sextile to Pluto adds a touch of depth to a fast-moving attraction or opportunity. First-flush passion has a serious undertone- this is more than a distraction or flirtation. There’s transformative potential, if you commit to seeing it through to the end.

And that’s really what Pluto is about- ultimate commitment, no matter how intense, exhausting or traumatic things get. But this is a sextile so you won’t be confronted with anything heavy (yet)- just a feeling that this could be much, much more if you’re ready to offer everything. And maybe you’re not – that’s fair. Pluto (even with a nice, easy aspect) is not for everyone. But if you are ready to go all in (financially or emotionally) this can ignite a fire that burns and burns and burns. And you know, this might not even be about anyone else – maybe it’s just a prompt to commit to yourself with unnerving intensity and courage.

Venus and Pluto make challenging aspects to Vesta in Cancer (focus on family and the past). Venus’ square implies conflict between you first (or a hot, new attraction) vs family/the past. The new you/new interest is somehow profane. Pluto’s quincunx is incompatibility between focus on the past/what’s familiar vs massive change that propels you into the future. There may be incredible resistance to these changes or (conversely) complete purging of the past as everything is tossed into the trash.

Vesta signals a problematic area but it should not be discounted. Devotion to home, family and core needs is still sacred, however, don’t allow these things to limit your vision of the future.
