It Might Happen! (Seasonal Anime Updates) – Spring 2024

It Might Happen Spring 2024 Seasonal Anime Update

It’s been a while since I dived into seasonal anime with this sort of focus, so I figured I would start by looking at what I plan to watch and why… based entirely on the promo image and synopsis!

It Might Happen! (Seasonal Anime Updates) – Spring 2024

The last time I did a post like this was for the Summer 2020 schedule and then, I only looked at seven titles. I covered three episodically and didn’t really like two of them. There were three that I binge-watched at the end of the season and loved. Two of them, I then rewatched and wrote up episodic reviews. And then, there was one I still haven’t watched! Hopefully, this will go much better, especially as I have selected sixteen shows to consider.

I’m hoping that this will become a regular part of my schedule. As someone who writes my own stories, I thought it would be interesting to look at the images and synopsis to see what made them resonate with me and why. It’s like picking a book from just the cover and the blurb on the back. They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but we all do. By doing this, I want to see if my initial thoughts married up to the final experience of watching the show. Anyhow, let’s look at the shows that I’ve selected!

Episodic Reviews

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Season Three)

KonoSuba God's Blessing on This Wonderful World 3 Title

This is going to be one of the shows that I cover episodically. I’ve reviewed all the other episodes and movies in the series so there was no way I was going to sit back and let this one get away from me. My only prediction is that I’m going to love it. I refuse to believe in any alternative. I can’t wait to see Darkness again. It’s been far too long!

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Season Three)

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 3 Title

Basically, this is the same scenario as KonoSuba. I’ve reviewed all the episodes and movies and cannot wait to get back into this world. I’m looking forward to seeing Shion again and hope she manages to stay alive all the way through this time. I get the feeling things are going to get ramped up now that Rimuru is a Demon Lord.

Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Season Two) – Part 2

Mushoku Tensei II Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Title

And this completes my list of three shows that I’ll be covering episodically. I’ve loved this series from day one, and while the last part wasn’t as strong as the others, there was no way I was going to miss it. If nothing else, I’m not getting caught out by any spoilers. As for predictions, I’m certain it’s going to be amazing. Maybe, we’ll even finally go save Rudeus’ mother.

Seasonal Reviews

Kaiju No. 8 (Season One)

Kaiju No 8 Title

All right, so I’m not picking this one based on the image or the synopsis. I picked this one without even seeing either… well, that’s because I’ve read three volumes of the manga and loved it. So, as soon as I saw that it was scheduled, I signed up. I’m hoping that they do the battles justice in this one as the artwork was spectacular in the manga. I am a little concerned by some of the early image releases and how awkward some of the faces were, but hopefully, that’s just some preliminary work. This should be a blast!

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (Season One)

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Title

This should be interesting. I’ve not seen the original version of Spice and Wolf despite many people recommending it to me. Well, they have a shiny new version so I guess my time has come. I feel like this is going to be similar to the Fruits Basket remake where I get sucked in and never want to leave. Even with all the recommendations, I don’t know anything about the story and managed to avoid reading the synopsis too. All I have to go on is the reputation of the original and the rather delightful promo image!

Unnamed Memory (Season One)

Unnamed Memory Title

Fantasy, mystery, romance! This could go either way, but I’m actually hopeful that it’ll be rather interesting. I love the art style which is already giving me warm feelings, but there’s also a hint of wistful melancholy. The synopsis talks about a champion who falls in love with a witch who is trapped at the top of a tower. Of course, that wouldn’t necessarily be that interesting… but wait, anyone he marries dies! Can she break the curse? Intriguing!!!

An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride (Season One)

An Archdemon's Dilemma How to Love Your Elf Bride Title

Look, more fantasy romance but with demons and elves. Admittedly, this one might be the problem child of the group as the protagonist buys the elf at an auction because he fell in love with her at first sight. However, he’s so socially inept that he struggles to tell her that. I get the feeling awkward moments and misunderstandings will be front and centre in this series, and I’m here for that. This could turn out to be very good.

Gods’ Game We Play (Season One)

Gods' Game We Play Title

Well, this looks like it’ll be a fairly typical high school battle series with monsters and gods, and I’m guessing a big twist that reveals all is not what it seems to be. I’m expecting lots of action, big monsters, some more action, some big fights, and given the ecchi tag some shredding of clothes, numerous panty shots, and possibly a couple of high-stakes games… if you know what I mean! I’m already looking forward to this one.

Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers (Season One)

Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers Title

I’m hoping that this will turn out to be this season’s Beast Tamer. I’m getting some super chilled vibes from this image and given the title that seems wildly appropriate. There’s no ecchi tag so that backs up my Beast Tamer claim. That said, the characters do look wonderfully well drawn… More specifically, I want to know why level two. Has level one gone out of fashion? I’m looking forward to some overpowered abilities from a guy who has no idea how strong he is.

As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World (Season One)

As a Reincarnated Aristocrat I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World Title

I don’t tend to go for shows with a child protagonist, but this one kind of reminds me of The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me? which was a fun show. That, and the witch at the back of this image, was more than enough for me to add this to my watch list. I’m looking forward to appraising this series… Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Mysteries, Maidens, And Mysterious Disappearances (Season One)

Mysteries, Maidens, And Mysterious Disappearances Title

The synopsis for this series talks about Sumireko Ogawa, a busty bookstore clerk, who wants to become a novelist… Why not a busty novelist? Honestly, it was the fact that they referred to her by her bust that caught my attention and not because of the size. Simply, I want to know if it’s relevant to the story or just a clever trick to catch people’s attention. Well, it’s not that clever… Anyhow, this sounds creepy regardless of her breast size. I’m in!

Re:Monster (Season One)

ReMonster Title

I’m getting some serious Reincarnated as a Slime vibes from this one and that’s got to be a good thing. This time it’s about the weakest goblin who died and was reincarnated with his memories intact. Is it still an isekai if you’re reincarnated back into your original world? I don’t know, but this looks like it’ll be fun. I’m going to gobble it up!

The New Gate (Season One)

The New Gate Title

This one isn’t even pretending it’s not Sword Art Online… However, I’m intrigued by the idea that having defeated the life-or-death online game, the protagonist is isekaied to a world just like the one in the game. It could be the mash-up we never knew we needed. I guess I’m about to find out!

The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases (Season One)

The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases Title

Not another hero/hero’s party member banished/fired/cast aside who builds a new life for themselves doing something mundane only to become the new hope for the world… Probably, but that’s cool. This guy just wants to relax, but it seems like no one will leave him alone. I think this could be quite funny as he gets more and more frustrated that no one will let him be.

Train to the End of the World (Season One)

Train to the End of the World Title1

This is an original series about a group of girls who go searching for their missing friend in an apocalyptic setting… or so I believe. There’s a definite slice-of-life vibe to things, but then it is the apocalypse too which is what caught my attention. There’s not a lot to go off and since it’s an original, it could go either way. Hopefully, this will be interesting. Could be a sleeper hit!

What next for Spring 2024?

Now that I’ve lined up my schedule for Spring 2024, I should probably go over what comes next. Other than the three shows that I’ll be covering episodically, I’m going to be waiting until I have four episodes of each show before I watch them. Then, once I’ve watched the first four episodes of each of these shows, I’ll be back to give you my first impressions. I’ll repeat the process at eight episodes. After that, I’ll briefly talk about the final four or five episodes and then the season reviews will start to roll as I finish each of the shows. By then, the process will begin once more for Summer 2024…

Are you planning on watching any of these shows? Or is there something that you’re super excited about that I haven’t got on my list? Anyhow, thanks for reading!
