German leisure airline Condor waves goodbye to its fleet of Boeing 767 after operating it last 767-300ER revenue flight on Tuesday March 12, 2024.
The last flight was operated by 24-year-old D-ABUK, flying from Havana (HAV) to Frankfurt (FRA) as DE2185. It was later ferried to Dusseldorf (DUS) on March 15.
Condor operated a total of 18 767-300ERs over a 34 year period, peaking at 16 operated at any one point in time. They even operated one frame (registered D-ABUC) that holds the record for most 767 flight hours in the world. However Condor’s time with Boeing is slowly coming to a close as it transitions towards an all-Airbus fleet as part of its renewal plans.
“The Boeing 767 was successfully operated by Condor for over 30 years. The most recently retired D-ABUC even holds the Boeing record for flight hours of this type. With the advances in technology, product and sustainability, the modernization has now become necessary,” says Christian Schmitt, COO and Accountable Manager Condor. “The aircraft has a very special significance for Condor and its many employees. We are convinced that its reliability and resilience have been an important aspect of Condor’s success in recent years. The last passenger flight marks the end of an era.”
D-ABUK will officially leave the fleet in mid-April, and will be flown to the Phoenix-Goodyear Airport via Bangor to be handed back to its lessors.
As it stands, the last remaining Boeing product in their fleet are their nine 757-300s which are expected to be phased out some time in 2025. Those are expected to be replaced with their order of 32 Airbus A321neos, the first of which is expected to be delivered in 2024.
Their current A320ceos and A321ceos are also expected to leave the fleet slowly as they take on newer, more fuel-efficient neo models.
As is stands, Condor has the following fleet breakdown:
- 12 Airbus A320-200s
- 13 Airbus A321-200s
- 15 Airbus A320neos on order (none delivered yet)
- 32 Airbus A321neos on order (none delivered yet)
- 21 Airbus A330-900s with 14 delivered and 7 still to be delivered
- 9 Boeing 757-300s (to be replaced by A321neos)
